PriceCheck

PriceCheck is a market price comparison web application built with Django, in collaboration with a frontend developer (Adeolu). The app allows users to search for everyday products like rice, beans, and oil, and instantly see up-to-date details such as category, unit of measurement, latest price, trader, and location. By using predefined categories and a clean interface, PriceCheck makes checking and updating market prices faster and more reliable.

The Story Behind PriceCheck

PriceCheck was born out of a real problem people in Nigeria face daily: the constant fluctuation of market prices. In one market, a bag of rice could sell for ₦50,000, while in another, the same bag costs ₦55,000. Buyers often waste valuable time moving from shop to shop asking for prices, without knowing the true, fair cost.

I asked myself, “What if there was a simple tool where anyone could quickly check the latest market prices?” That question led me to build PriceCheck — a solution that promotes transparency in pricing, helps buyers make smarter decisions, and reduces the stress of endless price-checking.

Working on this project also gave me the opportunity to collaborate with a frontend developer (Adeolu), which improved my teamwork and real-world project experience.

Development Process

Research & Planning

I started by studying how market prices change daily in Nigeria and how difficult it is for buyers to know the fair price. I also looked at how to structure the app so categories like Rice, Beans, and Oil were predefined, making the experience simple for users.

Collaboration & Concepts

I worked with a frontend developer (Adeolu) to plan how the app should look and feel. While he focused on the interface, I handled the backend with Django — ensuring smooth data flow between the database and the user interface.

Building & Testing

I built the app in Django, designed the models for products, categories, and traders, and tested the logic by adding sample products. Adeolu and I worked together to make sure the data displayed cleanly in a table format.

Implementation & Launch

Once the features were working, we pulled everything together. The final result was a simple but functional price comparison tool — a live board that makes checking product prices easy and transparent.

PriceCheck was built with a focus on simplicity, reliability, and collaboration. I worked on the backend while Adeolu handled the frontend, so we combined tools that allowed us to move fast and build a functional web app that solved a real-world problem.

Project Impact
